Dr. Michael Stolte has been a Registered Psychologist since 2006, a Canadian Certified Counsellor since 2004, and is a registered provider with Indigenous Services Canada (NIHB, IRSRHSP), and Medavie Blue Cross (Veterans Affairs).

He has been in private practice for 20+ years providing psychological counselling and assessment services. From 2012 to 2022, alongside his private practice, he served as Director of Clinical Services for the Centre for Autism Services Alberta, a large non-profit service provider, supervising teams of health and non-health care professionals.

As the pathway to mental health is unique to everyone, Dr. Stolte draws from a wide range of therapy models (cognitive behavioral, narrative, family systems, etc.) in his counselling practice.  He is also trained in psychological assessment and specialized interventions for complex, high conflict family situations.

About my practice

General Counselling and Assessment

My initial training was in providing therapy for children, youth, adults, couples, and families for a wide range of mental health needs (e.g. depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, adjustment, career, obsessive compulsive disorder, etc.). I draw from a wide range of theoretical models including narrative, CBT, ACT, polyvagal theory, Gottman, Family Restructuring Therapy, Attachment, and DBT.

Assessments are provided for diagnostic inquiry, motor vehicle injury, and other presenting concerns. I am an approved vendor for Indigenous Services Canada (Residential Schools/NHIB) and also Medavie Blue Cross (Canadian Armed Forces, Veteran’s Affairs, RCMP, etc.)

Neurodiversity-Affirming Counselling and Assessment

Working with the neurodiverse community for almost 20 years, I have developed a deep appreciation for uniqueness. No one is the same. Starting with goals that are important to you, I draw from a wide range of evidence-based therapies to work towards improved
quality of life and better mental health.

I am also able to provide differential diagnosis for older teens and adults who suspect they may be on the Autism spectrum and/or ADHD.

Currently, I still maintain a consulting role as Senior Clinical Advisor with the Centre for Autism Services Alberta, a large non-profit service provider in the Edmonton area.

High Conflict Divorce, Practice Note 7/ Expert Witness

As a member of AFCC (Association of Family and Conciliation Courts) since 2008, I have been qualified as a parenting expert in many cases in both an evaluative and intervention role. The specific roles are established through Family Court to assist families that are having difficulty navigating changes as part of unresolved separation and divorce.

I am also able to support families that are navigating separation and divorce outside of Court related processes.

Finally, I have also served on expert panels for the provincial government related to autism supports.
